Reclaimed Antique Limestone Fireplace Mantels

Limestone Mantel with Gadrooned Frieze and Fluted Columns

A sculptural reclaimed limestone fireplace mantel built around a coved frieze carved with deep diagonal gadrooning that sweeps the full width beneath a heavily stepped cornice shelf. A plain molded rail closes the lintel. The jambs are slim fluted columns rising from square plinths to carved acanthus capitals set with small rosettes. Golden travertine like banding runs through the upper stone while the columns read paler and more open. The carving is crisp but every edge is softened by wear. Suited to a drawing room, dining room, library or refined period restoration.
