Limestone Mantel with Palmette Frieze and Basket Arch

A deeply carved reclaimed limestone fireplace mantel photographed at an angle that shows how far its cornice projects. The cornice edge is cut with a band of leaf tips over a twisted rope molding, and the frieze below carries alternating palmettes and rosettes locked inside interlacing loops. Underneath, the surround turns a wide basket arch in several reeded moldings, with shaped shoulders and rounded jamb ends. The limestone is honey coloured and finely pitted throughout. Suited to a drawing room, library, dining room, estate home or architectural restoration project.
