Monumental Limestone Chimneypiece with Armorial Overmantel
The most architectural piece in the Ancient Surfaces collection. Above a projecting cornice runs a carved band of palmettes linked by scrolling stems, and below it a deep overmantel panel is carved in high relief with a plumed armorial shield flanked by sweeping foliage. The panel is framed by bead molding and rosette corner blocks. Two round columns with carved acanthus capitals carry the whole composition. The limestone is dry, open grained and softly chipped along every arris. Made for a great hall, estate entrance hall, library or architectural restoration at full scale.
