Limestone Mantel with Acanthus Scroll Consoles

Photographed at a quarter turn so the depth of the carving reads, this reclaimed limestone fireplace mantel carries a frieze of scrolling stems, open blossoms and a central acanthus spray beneath a boldly molded cornice shelf. Each jamb is a sweeping console, dressed at the shoulder with a large acanthus leaf and fluted down the shaft to a square plinth. A grey green patina has settled across the cream stone, with rust coloured mineral spots on one leg. It sits on a pale hearth slab. Suited to a drawing room, library, great room or estate renovation.
