Limestone Mantel with Lobed Cornice and Reeded Frieze
A strongly moulded reclaimed limestone fireplace mantel whose cornice is carved with a close run of large lobed ornaments, almost a stone fringe, above a finely reeded frieze. The cornice and frieze break forward over scrolled corbel brackets at each end, and plain flat jambs drop straight to the floor. A herringbone firebox sits within. The limestone is warm biscuit with pale drifts. Photographed in an unfinished great room under open beams, it shows how much presence the piece holds before any furniture arrives. Suited to a great room, library, lodge or new build renovation.
